What Is In a Name?

There`s more to names than meets the eye. Finding suggest that people whose names start with the letter J are 250 percent more likely to become millionaires compared to people whose names start with N; when it comes to making business deals, Keiths outperform Nigels by almost 300 per cent; and the name Emma evokes stronger romantic feelings than the name Kate!

So, would your life improve if you were to change your name? Many actors and actresses obviously think so. And so do companies looking to find the right name for their product. The name we have should in some way reflect our personality and style but it can also be changed to influence the way other people view us and the way we get on in the world.

Even before meeting a new person we tend to form an image based on their name. The name Blake can conjure up the image of a strong, confident man whereas Cedric might arouse prejudices of someone timid or reserved. The name Hannah carries an image of softness and femininity whereas Kay is more aggressive.

Many parents pick a name for their babies quite quickly. They might name their child after a relative or a character they love from a book, sport or TV. It`s important to remember that unless they change it, the name will stay with that baby for life and could impact his or her future.

To a "T"

M is naturally associated with everything maternal. In most languages the word for mother starts with an m. People with short, sharp names like Pat, Kit and Ted can convey a sense of urgency and drive.

B, G, T, K and C are masculine letters â€“ as in Butch, Buck, Duke, Bill, Jake, Kirk, Scott, Dick. Whereas charm and sweetness come from high-pitched tones like Betty, Sally, Judy, Britney, Daisy, Honey. Intelligence seems to be attributed to names beginning with the letters of learning and wisdom ie, J, L, W and D.

People whose names start with strongly pronounced letters (B, T, J, C, K, D) may be more successful in sport. Names that are more gentle to pronounce (H, S, M, N, V, W, L) indicate less athletic prowess. In politics, letters of leadership and strength (J, D, T, B, P, G, L) are dominant. In the arts, names with self assured letters (I, A, E, J) are strong.
