Aphrodisiac Advice
Are you looking to increase your sexual desire, boost your self-esteem,
and feel sexier? Do you need some extra fire in your relationship? The
answer could be in your next meal.by Pat Blackett
An aphrodisiac is defined as ‘causing or increasing sexual desire` (The word is linked to the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite). Lovers throughout history have sought and used aphrodisiacs to get them in the mood.
The setting
For best results prepare the foods you are going to use during a waxing moon (anytime between the new and full moon) and burn a red candle as you work. Make preparations in advance so you have little to do at the last minute and can enjoy with your partner. Select a table that is small so your knees will touch when you are seated. Candles and flowers are essential; they are pleasing to the eye and give off a sensual fragrance. Try to avoid too highly scented flowers or candles which cover up the aromas of your meal. Dim the lights and put on some background music. A crackling fire will add to the sexy setting. Make sure phones are on silent mode, and please, leave the dishes for morning!
A – Z of sexy food
Asparagus
Asparagus was served to bridegrooms in the 19th century due to its reputation as an aphrodisiac. Asparagus is thought to give a boost to your love life because of its appearance. It`s also packed with potassium, phosphorous and calcium.
Avocados
Their flesh is creamy and sensual but it is their appearance that is said to make them a turn-on. They are said to resemble parts of both the male and female anatomy.
Banana
An enzyme called bromelain is said to enhance male performance.
Caviar
High in zinc which stimulates the formation of testosterone, the male sex hormone. Can be fed to your lover in tantalising little scoops.
Chillies
Eating chile peppers gets the blood rushing, the heart pumping and the pores sweating which are all reactions that can also be caused by sexual attraction.
Chocolate
This favourite food of lovers contains a sedative which relaxes and lowers inhibitions and also a stimulant that increases the desire for physical contact. It was banned from some monasteries centuries ago. The Aztecs and Mayans considered chocolate to be the nourishment of the Gods.Chocolate contains a chemical which is the same as that which rushes through the veins when you are in love.
Figs
The ancient Greeks celebrated their fig crops with orgies. Ripe, fresh figs are said to be linked to the female sexual organs.
Ginseng
Increases the desire for physical contact and boosts the sex drive.
Honey
The Greeks prescribed honey for sexual energy. Wedding traditions in some cultures include the offering of honey to a bridegroom and even the term honeymoon stems from an ancient tradition of couples going into seclusion and drinking a honey concoction until the first new moon of their marriage.
Oysters
The most famous love food of all going back to Roman times. Casanova is said to have eaten fifty raw oysters every morning! Some oysters change their sex from male to female and back again giving rise to claims that the oyster lets one experience the masculine and feminine sides of love. Oysters are high in protein and loaded with zinc which is known to increase the sexual health of men and women.
Radish
Considered a divine aphrodisiac by Egyptian pharoahs, most likely because its spicy taste stimulated the tongue.
Truffles
Said to arouse the body due to its musky aroma.
Wine
Wine tops the list of romantic beverages, especially champagne. This is because it fosters relaxation which in turn allows intimacy to develop.
What not to serve at a romantic dinner
Coffee and tea
They have too much caffeine for romance and make for a nervous lover rather than a loving one.
Ice cold water and cola drinks
They have a chilling effect on desire.
Citrus fruits and juices
Oranges, lemons and grapefruits for example - they contain too much acid to be helpful in providing sweetness to the occasion (the same goes for vinegar).
