Born on November 26th 1939, Anne Mae Bullock, aka Tina Turner is a Sagittarius and was born in the Chinese year of the Ox. Born and raised in Tennessee, her career as a singer effectively began at age 18, when she started performing with future husband Ike Turner’s music revue. The couple quickly rose to prominence in the 1960s and 70s. She adopted the stage name Tina Turner and the band was renamed The Ike and Tina Turner Revue.
Sagittarians have a reputation for being bold extroverts, and her wildly energetic and daring performances were a hit with US and international audiences. Other famous Saggitarians who have been known for their powerful, charismatic and above all popular performances include Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears.
Those born under Sagittarius’ archer are often filled with a restless energy that, if channelled properly, can lead them to great success and numerous achievements. They can also be very adventurous, and enjoy world travel - a useful attribute to have as a globetrotting singer. Their kind and open nature can however be a vulnerability sometimes when exploited by others.
Tina’s success was thrown into contrast in the mid-70s when her personal life seemed to explode around her and her popularity suffered a rapid decline. Both her marriage and her musical partnership with Ike ended during this period, and she later revealed in her autobiography that she had left him due to his ongoing physical attacks on her and his constant drug abuse. In 1968, she had attempted suicide.
Sagittarians can at times be overly keen to reject responsibilities and work, but few might have blamed Tina at this point for walking away from it all.
What’s love got to do with it?
But instead of falling apart or simply fading away after her disastrous marriage breakup and the demise of her band, Tina grew stronger, and in time she crafted a new image for herself, and as a solo performer she built herself into an icon worthy of the title ‘queen of rock’. She would later credit her conversion to Buddhism as being central to her resurgence and the strength she found to make it through these tough times.
Another characteristic which is central to the Sagittarian personality is a fierce sense of independence and by tapping into this inner reserve of strength, Tina was able to remould herself and forge one of the most enduring musical careers of the 20th Century.
As an Ox, she clearly understood the value of hard work and determination in achieving success in any sphere of life. She applied herself constantly to her passion, intent on being better than all the rest.
Like fellow Ox and veteran of the music world, Dame Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner’s personal life has been troublesome, but by triumphing through adversity she has become a powerful symbol of inner strength for many women.
With the fire element ruling over her Chinese sign, Tina has a natural inclination towards cool calculation and can be money orientated.
From humble beginnings, through tumultuous times, Tina Turner became known as one of the world’s most successful female rock musicians. She has won adoration from millions, eight Grammies, countless other awards and today continues to perform with youthful energy even at the age of 71. With the tenacity of the archer and the sheer determination of the Ox, she has surely proved herself to be simply the best.
